History of Delta Theat Phi

NAME:

Delta Theta Phi can trace its roots back to 1900 as the the product of a merger between four law fraternities, Delta Phi Delta, Alpha Kappa Phi, Theta Lambda Phi and (more recently) Sigma Nu Phi. A name that included one Greek letter from each of the constituent fraternities, and thus Delta Theta Phi was created.

HISTORY OF DELTA THETA PHI

In September of 1913, Delta Phi Delta, Alpha Kappa Phi and Theta Lambda Phi merged at the joint convention in Chicago, consolidation of the various chapters gave the newly formed Delta Theta Phi 32 active senates.

Since its formation the governing body for the Fraternity has been the Supreme Senate. The original Supreme Senate consisted of seven elected officers that oversaw all aspects of the Fraternity. Later a student position was added to the Supreme Senate to include student representation, with a second position being created in the 1970's.

In 1969, Delta Theta Phi became an International Fraternity with the addition of two chartered senates in Puerto Rico, one in Hato Rey and the other in deHostos. Shortly thereafter senates in Australia, Canada, and Iceland were chartered.

In 1989, Delta Theta Phi merged with Sigma Nu Phi, absorbing all its members and gaining the Adelphia Law Journal, making Delta Theta Phi the only law fraternity in the world with its own authoritatively recognized law review.
